John Rizzo, Former Deputy Counsel of CIA, Headlines ALM’s Annual General Counsel Conference

NEW YORK – May 9, 2014 – ALM Events, a leading producer of educational and networking events for business leaders and professionals, today announced that it will host “The 26th Annual General Counsel Conference: Bringing New Focus to the In-House Counsel,” on June 4-5, 2014, at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

The event will provide key insight into the inner workings of the most successful in-house legal departments and tips on achieving the same results.

The keynote speaker on June 4th will be John Rizzo, former Deputy Counsel of the CIA, and the author of Company Man: Thirty Years of Controversy and Crisis in the CIA. He will offer an insider’s look at the challenges of managing an in-house legal department within a high-pressure organization. Mr. Rizzo is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution and Senior Counsel at Steptoe & Johnson.

The keynote session on June 5th will be moderated by Ed Gramling, Senior Corporate Counsel of Pfizer, and will feature Prashant Dubey, author of The Generalist Counsel:  How Leading General Counsel are Shaping Tomorrow’s Companies. This session will chronicle the change in the general counsel role over the past few years, provide real world examples of how leading general counsel execute their role and succinctly outline the implications for various stakeholders.

The conference is designed for general counsel and other senior in-house attorneys at companies and other organizations of all sizes. The theme for 2014 is to bring more focus to the changing internal structure and of the general counsel position, including sessions such as the following:

  • How the GC role has changed into a multi-tasking executive role in both the legal and business components of the company
  • How the GC role interacts with the other executives, outside counsel and third-party vendors
  • How the GC role has to find new balance between needed technology, compliance requirements and a shrinking budget
  • How the GC role must expand exponentially in a truly global business model
