The American Lawyer Team Will Develop Brand Innovation Strategy with New Leadership Role

New York, NY—January 18, 2017—Gina Passarella has been promoted to Executive Editor of ALM’s The American Lawyer. The American Lawyer was founded in 1979 and is the leading daily news source covering legal business, law firms and lawyers across the United States and around the world. The publication is an award-winning magazine with robust, daily online content that delivers up-to-the-minute news, analysis and tools that are critical for lawyers and administrators from the largest law firms. Passarella will focus on developing the brand’s innovation strategy and promoting the American Lawyer’s editorial content and efforts.

“The American Lawyer is a valued publication in our legal vertical, as it reaches across a variety of audiences and Gina’s extensive background and experience at ALM for the past 10+ years demonstrate her ability to help grow The American Lawyer’s presence,” said Molly Miller, Chief Content Officer at ALM. “In her role as co-editor of the business of law desk and her long history of covering this beat, she has demonstrated a strong understanding of the pressures and opportunities facing the nation’s largest law firms – we are thrilled to have her grow with us.”

Passarella joined ALM in 2005, where for more than 10 year she covered the business of law for ALM’s Pennsylvania publication, The Legal Intelligencer, focusing on the trends and issues impacting the largest law firms in the state and beyond. In June 2016, Passarella moved into the role of Senior Editor, Business of Law in ALM’s Global Newsroom. In this role, Gina wrote and co-led a team of highly skilled journalists from around the country who report on and analyze how the world’s law firms operate and compete. Passarella has won several awards for her reporting, including a Jesse H. Neal award for a series on the changing business models of law firm’s post-recession and two Emmy awards for her work doing feature reports with the American Law Journal. Before joining ALM, Passarella earned her master’s degree in broadcast journalism and public policy from American University in Washington, D.C.

“ALM has been a wonderful place for me to grow and develop my career,” said Gina Passarella, Executive Editor of The American Lawyer at ALM. “I look forward to seeking and establishing new ways to increase The American Lawyer’s visibility and value to our readers, developing insightful and innovative content that helps professional leaders succeed in the complex business of law, with information they need in order to propel and meet their business goals and objectives.”

The American Lawyer’s signature surveys and rankings, including the Am Law 100, The Am Law 200, The Global 100 and the A-List, are highly anticipated within the legal industry as benchmarking tools of core business of law metrics.
