Web Editor
The Web Editor is responsible for product management and content support for the SmartLitigator product line and Law Journal Press Books Online. A customer-facing position, the Web Editor translates customer comments on the product web sites into actionable product requirements and assists the product management group with managing product enhancements and web-based usage data to inform product development.
There are four key areas of focus for this position: (1) Editorial—making and managing editorial changes to the SmartLitigator web sites including XML conversion, capturing customer feedback and responding to customers; (2) Product—translating customer comments into product requirements, managing the release of product features from the beta phase through commercial launch including periodic QA of the SmartLitigator products; (3) Web Analytics—Routine review of the web analytics, reporting to management and analyzing for trends; and, (4) upon request, support of the LJP Books Online project.
Responsibilities
- Make editorial changes to the SmartLitigator and LJP Books Online web sites on a periodic basis after a content and QA review.
- Perform periodic QA of the SmartLitigator and LJP Books Online web sites.
- Review comments from customers using the new sites during the beta period and following through commercial launch. Answer questions or route to appropriate group for response.
- Translate customer comments into actionable product requirements.
- Manage the requirements through development to update on the live web sites.
- Participate in weekly and monthly content review sessions and manage updates to the web sites as appropriate.
- Develop, in partnership with marketing, email messages and manage email blasts to customers and prospects for recruiting beta users, identifying prospects and sending general communications to current customers.
- Manage customer sign-ups for the new products.
- Manage, in partnership with the content team, the development of new SmartLitigator products and enhancements to LJP Books Online, overseeing content updates, product development and the launch of new features and functionality. QA new releases for content and functionality accuracy.
- Manage relationship with outside vendors for the digital conversion of hard copy files to XML for product load.
- Coordinate, with the Content Editor, XML book production to feed the SmartLitigator web sites.
- Coordinate, with market research, issuing periodic web-based customer satisfaction surveys, collect survey results, analyze and write summaries of customer responses. Use customer survey responses to define product enhancements.
- Collect and analyze web usage data from commercial and/or proprietary packages. Format and report usage trends to Product Management.
- Use the data to inform and influence new features and functionality in the product line; translate customer usage data into product enhancements or features to discontinue based on usage patterns.
- Participate in the product line steering committee as an active team member managing the development, testing and release of Smart SmartLitigator products.
Requirements
- Web Editor/Product Manager with three – five years of experience designing and managing new web-based products and services.
- Experience managing web content for a B2B company showing progressive levels of authority and independent decision-making responsibility.
- Editorial expertise and ability to carry editorial principles to web-based products and services.
- Knowledge of XML coding, document type definitions and vendor content conversion services.
- Web analytics usage data [packaged software or proprietary] and experience tracking and reporting usage data and translating usage data into product requirements.
- Experience working with direct sales teams and making presentations to sales groups as well as customers.
- Team player with strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with advanced web content management software, search software and industry-specific taxonomies a plus.
- JD degree preferred but not necessary.
