The New York Law Journal is seeking an experienced, general assignment reporter to cover a wide range of legal stories, with a special emphasis on the business of mid-sized firms. This reporter must show an interest in the evolving economics of law firms, their management structure, their personalities, hiring practices, billing rates, succession plans and a host of other business, professional and legal issues affecting the mid-size market in New York. In addition, this reporter must be familiar with the state and federal court systems and able to write daily articles on court decisions that affect the practice of law, court administration, oral arguments, trials and other legal issues.

The ideal candidate should have at least five years of reporting experience and be skilled at recognizing a good story, working a beat and developing enterprise articles on law firms. This reporter should be self-directed and show initiative, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and improve their journalistic skills.
