THE RECORDER TO EXPAND DIGITAL DELIVERY
OF LEGAL NEWS AND ANALYSIS
Redesigned and Expanded Legal Website and Weekly Newspaper to Debut June 7

SAN FRANCISCO (June 1, 2010)The Recorder, California’s leading provider of legal news, information and analysis, today announced plans to expand digital delivery while shifting to a weekly newspaper publishing schedule. The Recorder will introduce a completely redesigned website and newspaper on June 7. The former Cal Law website, now therecorder.com, will feature enhanced online news coverage and updates throughout the day. Newspaper subscribers will now receive full premium access to all online content at no additional charge.

Website enhancements for therecorder.com include expanded California law headlines, integration of the Legal Pad blog, Twitter feeds, improved access to specific coverage areas and new opportunities for advertisers to target specific content. Registered users will now have the ability to comment on stories.

The Recorder weekly newspaper will publish on Mondays and offer in-depth legal news and analysis, expanded “In Practice” substantive law content, weekly judicial profiles, in-house profiles and case summaries.  Print subscribers who are not already registered for website access can do so at www.therecorder.com/register_online or call (415) 490-1056.

Subscribers will continue to receive the popular morning news and the afternoon case e-mail alerts each weekday. The market-leading California Daily Opinion Service will continue to be published on the website, where users can download daily CDOS booklets. Judicial profiles will be published weekly, doubling the number available to readers.

“The majority of our subscribers now prefer to access The Recorder’s content digitally, and we believe that this percentage will continue to increase in the future,” said Brian Hunt, publisher of The Recorder.  “The shift to a weekly print publishing schedule will enable us to better serve our digital customers, while continuing to deliver a quality, must-read print publication.”
The Recorder’s online news will now be updated throughout the day, with breaking news posted online first, instead of waiting to coincide with print publication,” said Scott Graham, editor in chief.  “Our award-winning editorial team will be posting more stories online as events happen. Those stories will focus first on news reporting, with subsequent stories – and the print edition – focused on adding background, context and analysis.”

An FAQ document covering many issues related to these changes is available at http://www.law.com/jsp/ca/marketingLanding.jsp?p=faq.  For additional information on subscriptions, group discounts and digital site licenses, please call (415) 490-1056 or e-mail Hunt at bhunt@alm.com.
