Director - Primary Source Law
The Director, Primary Law will develop a primary law strategy by identifying relevant data sources for ALM products, negotiating with vendors to license or acquire data, and manage the structuring of the data acquired. This position will work closely with the VP, Product Strategy and Development in the development of new and enhancement of existing products. The Director will work in a team environment, liaising with Product Development, Editorial, Production, Marketing and IT to provide the required data in the most cost-effective and timely manner while tagging and structuring data to maximize content reuse in a variety of products.
Responsibilities
- Develops primary law licensing, acquisition and production strategy.
- Works with new product development to identify primary source (case law, statutes, rules and regulations, judge & court data) needs.
- Negotiates licenses/acquisitions for all external primary law data.
- Leads data gathering and structuring for in-house data builds.
- Supervises tagging and linking of data to be accessed in various products.
- Leads and manages standardization of primary law collection, formatting, tagging and display across the company.
- Liaises effectively with the business and IT to ensure the effective launch and development of all products.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of data sources, competitive developments, and industry trends.
Requirements
- Five+ years experience sourcing primary law and related legal information.
- Excellent technical knowledge, licensing experience, and understanding of content repositories and databases.
- Familiarity with taxonomy/XML tagging requirements and structuring information for databases.
- Knowledge of data sources and competitive environment.
- Effective working in cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills.
- Strong business skills.
