The National Law Journal Recognizes 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America
The star-studded list of the “100 Most Influential Lawyers” includes lawyers in the U.S. who have reshaped the legal world through their work in the courtroom, at the negotiating table, in the classroom or on Capitol Hill. Named to the list are dealmakers, trial attorneys, legal scholars, lobbyists, general counsel, firm managers and appellate advocates.
The list includes movers and shakers from throughout the legal profession, such as the following:
- Floyd Abrams, Cahill Gordon
- David Boies, Boies Schiller
- Richard Cordray, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
- David Drummond, Google
- Eric Holder, Department of Justice
- Lawrence Lessig, Harvard Law School
- Ted Olson, Gibson Dunn
- Barry Scheck, The Innocence Project
The entire list is published in the March 25, 2013 issue of The National Law Journal and is available online at www.nlj.com.
The individual lawyers recognized in today’s report were selected by the editors of The National Law Journal, based upon nominations from the legal community and reporting by the publication’s correspondents. Practicing lawyers, legal scholars and government officials in legal positions were considered for the list; judges, members of Congress and the president were not eligible.
Past lists, the most recent of which was published in 2006, have included the nation’s most recognizable attorneys as well as legal lions on the cusp of national fame, such as an Arkansas law firm partner and child welfare advocate, Hillary Rodham Clinton, who made the list in 1988 and again in 1991.
“We selected these top performers based on their political clout, the legal results they’ve achieved, their media presence, credibility in the business community and thought leadership,” said David L. Brown, editor in chief of The National Law Journal. “All winners have a little bit of each quality and are exceptional in some. We’ve focused mainly on their accomplishments in the past five years, but also relevant is whether older accomplishments continue to affect the legal sector.”
The 100 Most Influential Lawyers will be honored at a dinner on June 13, 2013 at Gotham Hall in New York.
